Does this Mexican venue make you go Loco?

Last week, we took a drive to The Beach to this rustic establishment called Poco Loco. The walls painted in various colours and a vibe that will almost make you stand up and dance to the Spanish tunes playing. Almost. Most of the time, these ventures are packed with crowds which contribute to the lively ambience factor, unfortunately, the place was empty when we visited.

Some good #Mexicanfood for the soul πŸ’• @pocolocodubai

However, with staff so friendly and helpful, you can forget that. There’s just something about Mexican people, which is shown in their warm welcome. We first order the PocoΒ Loco Guacamole [AED 30] which is a must if you’re visiting any Tex-Mex venture, and some Tiger Prawns served on skewers [AED 36]. The guac is exactly how it should be – chunky. Not like a paste which we find in most places these days. The prawns are a letdown, with most parts being raw. To add to the starters, we ask for a Tasting Tray [AED 75] which serveΒ a massive selection of six tacos. There’s Soft Shell Crab, Roasted Lamb with Pastilla Sauce, Grilled Chicken with Salsa, Skirt Steak, Roasted Mushrooms with Corn and Clotted Cream, and Shrimp Tempura with Jalapeno Salsa. Whew! Most of this managed to fill us, but these were just the starters!

Nevertheless, the tacos at Poco Loco are fantastic, which shows how something so simple can taste great. Our favorites were the Soft Shell Crab and Skirt Steak.

Our main courses arrive after a good half an hour although the establishment still isn’t occupied. But, this gives us breathing time after the stunning starters we had. Our Chicken dish comes beautifully plated with a Roasted Corn Fed Baby Chicken over Quinoa [AED 100] paired with a sauce that has hints of ancho chili and garlic.

The Roasted Seabass is again a portion too big for us. Cooked in a Josper Grill and smothered in Red and Green Adobe Sauce [AED 220], we name this the winner of that afternoon. AΒ bit steep in price, but we’d love if they can introduce a smaller size of the dish.

No #Mexican meal is complete without #TresLeches Cake ❀️

Like they say, a good Mexican meal cannot end without Tres Leches [AED 32], we order just that. The cake is just right but most of the milk sauce is absorbed by it. I spot a Chocolate Fondant [AED 32] on the menu and couldn’t help but to succumb to the temptation. A perfect warm centre with Vanilla Ice cream and Raw Cacao Nibs added a good touch.

Nothing like some #churros drenched in #cajeta sauce 😍

If I’m going: Needless to say, we were quite impressed with the restaurant. And this has definitely made us go “Loco” for Mexican food. We recommend the Tasting Tray for those who want to try different flavors. Poco Loco has Taco Tuesdays where you can avail the offer of “all you can eat” tacos for AEDΒ 129.

The Seabass is something you shouldn’t miss and we’d make a trip especially for it.

Great food and warm staff could work even better if the service was a little faster. We hope Poco Loco works on this so it can become one of the best Mexican joints in town.
